Our Upepo Skirt - upepo is Swahili for breeze: you won’t be able to help but twirl in this skirt! - is hand-sewn African Kitenge cloth (100% cotton and locally made) with cummerbund, high-waisted style and elastic shirring allowing the skirt to size flexibly. Each skirt has 2 deep pockets (yes!!!!!), front pleating, and a slit in the back.
Please Note: our skirts are made of small batch fabrics. The swatch next to the size reflects the current fabric availability. Our fabrics change every 2 to 3 months so photographs may reflect models wearing earlier patterns. We don’t mean to confuse but - because the skirts are popular and are made in very small lots! - we don’t always have the time to have them photographed before they sell out!
100% of net proceeds are invested the Artisans and our innovative menstrual hygiene program, UhuruPads (East Africa's first 100% compostable sanitary pad, produced by a team of women for distribution to girls keeping them in school).
